About ‘Shadow Work’ (2024)

I seek to reconnect with the profound sense of serenity I once experienced when immersed in nature, a time when the primal connection to the natural world eclipsed the demands of a capitalist society.

The painting represents how I’ve connected with nature in a complete state of mindfulness and meditation, a fleeting moment of time where I’ve felt vulnerably connected with something outside of myself, that being the state of life in the warm sunshine of the spiritual Sonoran desert.

I am dedicated to exploring a transformative journey through the reflective practice of what is called “shadow work” in healing trauma. This philosophical and psychological practice began being used by psychologists in the 20th century.
This piece brings into fruition a new therapy I feel with creating work that is sourced from a reflective connection to nature, a complete mindful and present state while trying to heal from past childhood “shadows” and at the same time fully embrace this shadow self that lives within each individual’s the dominant nervous system and the Ego.
